Forest Reiki™ and Aromatherapy Q&A
Forest Reiki™What happens in a session? Is it like a massage or going to the chiropractor? First I’ll invite you in to have a seat in a soft chair where we’ll chat about what assistance you’d like. You’ll stay dressed, but you’re welcome to take off jackets, belts, jewelry that might be uncomfortable. I’ll ask you to remove your shoes, if you prefer, leave them on of course, but most people find their mind shifts easier into resting mode if they’re barefoot. For the best results, your session will also be a cell phone silent zone. As you lay down on the massage table, I’ll offer support as needed, cover you with blankets to your preference and help you feel comfortable and secure. For the next hour, I’ll lightly touch various key points on your body, avoiding all sensitive spots and personal areas. Your comfort and ability to relax is key, so feel free to ask me to not touch certain areas (for example your throat, or feet). With your permission sessions may involve essential oils to support your process.
What does it feel like? What will I experience? As I place my hands you may feel a slight tingling, heat, energy or nothing at all. Feeling something or even nothing at all doesn’t indicate whether the energy is working for you or not, it’s simply how your body senses it. Some clients see colors, some don’t, and some become so relaxed they fall asleep. Don’t worry, you’ll receive all the benefits whether you’re asleep or awake. At the end of your session, I help you sit up and offer you some water to sip on as we chat about how your session went, things you’d like to discuss, and if I feel anything I need to bring to your attention. Afterwards, I encourage you to listen to your body and offer it what it needs. Some find a Forest Reiki session energizes them, some need extra rest. An earlier bedtime can be helpful, most clients will find they sleep very deeply the night after a session, waking clear-headed and ready to tackle the day. How will you know if Forest Reiki is helping you? The experience can be different from person to person and even from session to session because balance is different for each of us. My clients report:

AromatherapyWhat are essential oils? Essential oils are natural, aromatic compounds extracted from plants. The oils capture the plant’s scent and flavor, or “essence”. They are typically obtained through distillation, though some are cold pressed.
What does it mean when it says an essential oil is phototoxic and how does it affect me? Some essential oils are phototoxic, meaning they can cause your skin to sunburn faster and deeper than you would normally. This means you need to be aware which oils can cause this, usually the citrus ones. It also means that you should not apply them before going out into the sun, or into a tanning bed. It’s recommended you allow 12 hours from application to sun exposure. If you need to use an essential oil that is phototoxic, you may still apply it, just on parts of your body that won’t be exposed to the sun. Which oils are phototoxic?
Angelica, Bergamot, Cumin, Grapefruit (low risk), Jade Lemon, Lemon Lime, Ocotea, Petitgrain (Bitter Orange), Rue, Tangerine Do essential oils expire? No, not really as there isn’t anything in them to “rot” or “go bad”. They can remain stable for many years if they are stored correctly, away from heat and light. However, essential oils can, and do oxidize. Several essential oils are more sensitive to this, I store those oils carefully to help prevent this. Oxidation changes the essential oil compounds, making them more likely to cause a skin reaction. They are still fine to diffuse and clean with though. Can I be allergic to an essential oil? This is a complicated question actually. Some say yes, some say no. It’s not a usual reaction, a true allergic reaction I mean. I have known clients who are allergic to a particular plant, but able to use the essential oil made from that plant. Often it's actually a skin sensitization issue, where your body doesn’t want that oil on itself. Whatever the cause, it’s uncomfortable and something to be avoided. Please make sure to let me know any allergies you have. Why do you ask about prescription medicines during an aromatherapy consult? I ask because there can be interactions between certain prescriptions and essential oils. The most common area of concern is blood thinners. Essential oils can help support a healthy body in so many different ways, but let’s make sure it’s done safely. Is my medical information kept private? Absolutely! I will never divulge your name, your issue, your prescriptions or any other revealing information without your express permission. Ready to experience your own aromatherapy consultation?
